Developer’s Shell Works, Aberdeen

This property, a Category ‘C’ Listed Building constructed circa 1873, is situated within the retail and business area of Aberdeen City Centre, bounded by Broad Street, South by Union Street and North by Netherkirkgate, all of which remained open to vehicular movement during the project.

The project involved the clearing out of loose materials/debris/asbestos together with the soft strip out works from the lower ground through to the fourth floor of the former E&M’s East Building to provide developers’s shell ready for restaurant fit out by the clients’ fit out contractor. Internally the building structure was vulnerable, no mechanical plant could be used requiring all strip and downtakings to be carried out by hand.

Regular dialogue was essential with Historic Scotland and full Design/Site Team to ensure the construction techniques/design was sympathetic to the former E&M’s building.
