Hillside Primary School Portlethen

Works comprised the construction of a single story 330m2 extension at Hillside Primary School, Portlethen.

The project predominantly concerns the construction of a 4-classroom extension and additional space for music and drama and communal areas created joined onto the western elevation of the south wing of the existing school.  The school itself is of recent construction with its construction being finished in 2017.

The extension is of steel frame construction comprising of:

  • an external wall composition of brick/block insulated cavity walling
  • horizontal and vertical rain screen cladding
  • aluminium curtain walling
  • on reinforced concrete ground floor slab on concrete pad and strip foundations on lime stabilised soil

The internal partitions are plasterboard and stud walls, with ceiling finishes being plasterboard and suspended ceiling, the heating strategy employed in the extension is an underfloor heating system.  The roof is an aluminium standing seam with roof ventilation terminals, and associated rainwater goods with all appropriate mechanical, electrical and plumbing services tied into the existing school.

External works to the school include resurfacing parts of the playground and construction of an external shelter.
