Works comprise the construction of 12 no properties together with all associated services, external works, hard and soft landscaping and fencing in a mix of detached and semi-detached cottages for general and additional needs.
Rural communities are an essential part of the way of life in Angus , the majority of the new homes accommodate families with children including 4 homes for particular needs. The air-tight, energy efficient homes take full advantage of solar power, helping to minimize fuel costs for tenants. In addition, fibre broadband was installed straight to the premises, to ensure good quality internet, which is essential for home working and studying in the modern home.
All properties are provided with secure garden ground to the rear with gardens being accessed by private paths to the side of each dwelling, laid with grass with a small patio area accessed from the main living area.
Construction works took place within a densely populated residential location with private properties sharing boundaries with the site and Newtyle Primary School situated just beyond the site which also accommodates an after school club. Pedestrian access to the school is via a path on the west side of our site boundary.
Community Engagement and Activities
The site is bounded by Newtyle Primary School and occupied residential accommodation. Engagement and ongoing regular communication with the school and local community was paramount on this project. Our efforts to ensure the children of Newtyle Primary School children gained some real life learning from the construction of these houses our community benefits included the delivery of site safety talks, a poster competitions, site visits with trade demonstrations and providing some unused materials to aid their learning. We also provided:
- Meet the Contractor evening held at Newtyle Primary School to which all local residents and surrounding community were invited
- 3 no. apprentices employed on site via Angus Shared Apprentice Scheme
- Community notice board providing regular updates
- Local residents lettered throughout the project advising of any key milestones, changes in deliveries, road closures etc.
The Newtyle project was been shortlisted in the Housing and Regeneration Category of the Surf Awards.
