Reducing Food Miles

Off cut timbers have been donated to Leonard Cheshire in Inverness, a home for 16 young adults with physical disabilities.  The offcuts will be going towards a project to reduce food miles, volunteers from Leonard Cheshire are making planters for the (FVG) Freedom Veg Group – Libertie Project which is not far from our site at Midmills.

This is part of the CCF (Climate Change Fund) project to model small space urban growing. Over the next year FVG will be growing in planters outside their office premises showing the local community how to grow their own. The Freedom Veg Group provides useful information on growing your own food, managing food waste and lowering your carbon footprint.

The projects old planters are being re used by two local primary schools to grow their own produce so the wood is going to very community based sustainable and accessible use.
